- Credit Reports - free annual ones or 3-in-1 reports quarterly
- Credit Scores
- Set Fraud Alerts
- Opt-out of Pre-approved credit offers
- Computer Protection - anti-virus software
- Service guarantee/warranty or identity theft insurance
- ID theft recovery assistance or all recovery done for you (LifeLock & ID Watchdog)
The three identity protection plans that stand out to us as winners are TrustedID, LifeLock and Identity Guard’s Total Protection.
LifeLock has the lowest price with a total service guarantee to restore our identity if it’s stolen. They have good scanning features and a wallet protection plan. We’ve given it our Editor’s Choice for Value and Recovery Services.
TrustedID has excellent scanning features plus gives you anti-spyware software to protect your computer. This is a money-saver that we really appreciate. They also have a Family Protection plan that includes all adults and children for one low price. They have earned our Editor’s Choice for Family Coverage and Value.
Our Editor’s Choice for Most Comprehensive Coverage goes to Identity Guard’s Total Protection. It has terrific scanning features, credit monitoring including credit scores, anti-virus protection, anti-spyware, anti-keylogging software for our computer and privacy protection for our mobile devices. Whew.. that’s a lot of protection for 15 bucks a month. They have been in business the longest (since 1996) and have over 8 million identities protected.
Identity Guard also has a lower priced plan - Extra Caution. It offers the credit monitoring, scores and scanning services as it’s big brother. It’s priced at $12 a month with your second month free. It’s a good way to combine identity protection with credit monitoring. If you can manage the extra $3 a month, go with the Total Protection Plan. You’ll probably save that much and more on anti-virus, anti-spyware protection you’d buy anyway.
